Do you really think the US would risk annihilation for the kyiv Reich or European midgets?

The Spectre's avatar

No, against Iran and any other adversary in Asia, that including China.

Iran will be nuked by Israel in 45 days - that after false flag attack on Israeli nuclear facility.

China will defend Iran, according to the latest strong agreement, and it will be attacked by America. First by closing Malacca Strait and the other waterways. Soon fast and deadly development, including armadas and nukes in the Middle Pacific.

Lavrov the foreign minister, has passed message from Putin, that retaliation is coming.

He mentioned Ukrainian military targets, but it well might mean, that this time also objects outside Ukraine are targeted. And it doesn't have to be a military strike with a loud boom on them - assymetrical response, a fire, cyber attack and hundred other means can be played.

As a foreign minister he is once again warning his counterparts. It wasn't a message passed through the ministry of defence.

It's difficult to interpret the other way.

As Israel/USA are talking about nuclear deterrence in the Middle East and likelihood of it happening after conventional means failed, Russia will have the right to use their tactical nukes on deep Ukrainian military bunkers, which can't taken by any missiles.

Bearing in mind, that Trump gave up on Zelensky and his entire clique and they might be gone whether by decapitation strike, assassination or jailed for corruption. Ukrainians killing Ukrainians, that's direction Russia would be supporting.

Feral Finster's avatar

This would require an assertiveness that Russia has entirely lacked so far.

The Spectre's avatar

Russia never wanted to escalate, they have build 1000 km Surovikin defence line and stopped offensive in 2023, eliminating a lot of NATO equipment and personnel. They have squashed mercenary lead Kursk incursion in 2024, again with over 60 000 attackers eliminated.

But each provocation against Russia rises popular support for the next stage, which might mean decapitation strikes. Russia doesn't need to conduct mobilisation, it has surplus soldiers on front line and citizens do volunteer to join army for a limited time. Each such dramatic act from Ukrainians on civilians, like the last month school dormitory attack or yesterdays attack on Moscow tower blocks, do send tens of thousands volunteers to military ranks. Most male in Russia are already militarily trained at basic levels.

Feral Finster's avatar

Yet it's the West and Ukraine that keep escalating.

What is wrong with Russia ?

The Spectre's avatar

Russia is counting on regime change in Kiev, but decapitation strike might speed up that process at the late times, when there is political alternative to Zelensky.

Civil war will split Ukraine into 2-3 territories. With largest chunk associated with Russia. So far Russia has 20% of Ukraine plus Crimea. They will take corridor to Odessa and to Hungary, to sell fuels directly to Balkans. Ukraine will be cut from sea which means losing economic independence, as rail and road transit to the world is not big enough and will rely on bans and taxes to European Union.

Oliver Singer's avatar

If Russian advances don't accelate SIGNIFICANTLY, this remains wishful thinking. I feel that Russia will end this campaign as soon as the entire Donbass has been liberated. But even then, without a lasting peace, the Donbass and Crimea will remain und cinstant attacks by drones.

Alyosha's avatar

Nobody will leave Odessa to Brits. Kharkov is reuniting as well, Whole left bank Dnepr essentially.

At least Slavyansk - Konstantinovka agglomeration will be wrapped up this year. Unless they go for some godly cauldron of the whole agglomeration, from the West.

Konstantinovka is ad acta, Krasni Lyman is ad acta They are 10km from Slavyansk from the East. Something similar with Kramatorsk. They will assault both at the same time.

They did something to drone operators in Konstantinovka. I have a feeling it will be the same in Slavyansk and Kramatorsk.

Oliver Singer's avatar

I agree with all of this, except taking everything east of the Dnjepr and Odessa. At the current pace these important goals cannot be achieved. It would take either the breakdown of Ukraine's resistance or a full escalation on the part of Russia. I don't see these developments more than I saw then 2 years ago. Without the achievement of these goals, however I can't picture a lasting peace or NATO getting out of Ukraine.

Alyosha's avatar

Pace will change. See what is happening around Slavyansk, everything is much faster than before.

E H's avatar

There is no need to capture Odesa; it suffices to strangle it by cutting off its supplies by sea and land. It is the siege tactic—one that dates back to early antiquity.

Chip Worley's avatar

You just explained to yourself precisely why the campaign will NOT end with Donbass liberation... Chip

E H's avatar

Russia does not fear Kyiv in the slightest; rather, it is fighting the European "dwarfs"—the European forces within NATO. The goal is the wholesale demilitarization of NATO—stripping it to the bone, including the US—a process that is already well underway.

Angelina's avatar

It's getting ridiculous.Russia is issuing yet another 3,717 serious warning. Why Lavrov needs to "pass message from Putin?" By now, everybody got the "message" many times over. It's not the message, it's actions what's needed. Look at Iran- if nothing else it shows what decisive measures look like.

The Spectre's avatar

That is rule of a civilised war. You warn an opponent not to escalate as it inevitably leads to spiral and they can't argue much with 3500 already deployed nukes on very precise intercontinental missiles.

Same as Iran was warning Israel and Americans yet before it was attacked that retaliation will be fast and strong.

That's why 12 days war was that short and why the present war lasted 42 days.

Russia has chance to end Ukrainian war fast, but with devastating effect to Europe - instant multi-million migration causing civil war in countries, where Ukrainian saturation is over 30%.

Angelina's avatar

The question remains how many times you have to warn?

The Spectre's avatar

Keep them guessing how long is a piece of string and when hammer will come

Angelina's avatar

The Spectre's avatar

Russia will have free hands in Ukraine when China takes on Taiwan sometimes within the next 6 months.

Or when Israel nukes Iran.

Or when Lavrov stops passing messages from Putin because the army will do whatever they want to do.

Yoni Reinón's avatar

Unavoidable in a war. Sadly

E H's avatar

It is war—the Western way. That is how they have always fought. This is the first conflict where military casualties vastly outnumber civilian ones. Just imagine Russia fighting according to Western norms. In fact, Russia has warned that a war with the Europeans would be different.

E H's avatar

There is nothing to say this is a warning. It might just be a ploy to fool the "idiots" (Europeans). If I wanted to eliminate a competitor, I would complain about these actions and tip them off about my intended responses; that way, feeling emboldened, they would do even more—exhausting all their resources until they imploded on their own. Memory is precious: demilitarize NATO and secure long-term peace—or even see the alliance disappear entirely.

E H's avatar

There is no need for nuclear weapons; you’re fixated on that. Open your mind and picture the first- and second-echelon forces—along with logistics—currently concentrated in the Donbas splitting in two: one part heading south and the other north to reinforce the troops already there after the capture of the last two cities. The effect is the same as a bomb.

Angelina's avatar

Henry Brewer's avatar

Angelina's avatar

oh, wow "not even aware of that alternative" - one hope is left for me that you'd mansplain it to me in all possible detail, because I probably can't even read?

Henry Brewer's avatar

I understand that instead of another warning, you would prefer Russia to send a nuclear weapon to the West. That is exactly what you wrote—that it is necessary because kids are dying. Or do you have another alternative instead of warnings? I would be happy to learn.

E H's avatar

Yes, he mentioned "You don't have any trump cards".

Zelensky was for always with Bidens, including RussianGate. Trump hates Zelensky

E H's avatar

That's incorrect; it's just that he no longer has the means.

E H's avatar

"Which can't be taken out by any missiles"? Really? A tactical weapon isn't used to smash through a bunker; since it isn't a ballistic weapon, its kinetic energy is low. It is designed to devastate forces over a very wide area, using an airburst to cover that extensive perimeter.

It is worth recalling Putin's statements regarding the recent use of the Oreshnik; if true, the potential targets for its deployment have already been designated—or are currently being selected.

The Spectre's avatar

For forty years USSR build in Ukraine hundreds of nuclear shelters, able to withstand medium sized detonations. They are up to 100 metres underground. Or hundreds meters in disused coal and salt mines.

Speaking The Truth's avatar

The propaganda Great Statesman Putin (as potrayed by alternative media) is simply incompetent or for whatever reasons to allow this war to drag on for 4-5 years. He should have ended it a long time ago with Russia’s superpower military might. 🤔

The Spectre's avatar

War of attrition is a strategy which needs time to be successful. So far it works for Russia in disarming NATO.

And without NATO support Ukraine will fall down in 2 weeks.

Feral Finster's avatar

Any day now, The Great Pumpkin will rise out of the pumpkin patch...

Face it, this "just the tip" warfare is not working.

The Spectre's avatar

No, not "any day now".

War of attrition works for Russia, doesn't work for NATO. Can last long, as long as Russia want's it to last.

They have 750 000 on front line on good rotation against at least same on Ukrainian side, which fight without any leave for many years. Yet they are advancing with minimal loses. Yesterday body exchange was 37/522.

Since the beginning of 2025 tally is 500/20 000.

Body count shows that Russia is winning and advancing fast, that Ukrainians don't have time to collect their heavy wounded and dead. Russia has 10 x more of POWs, most of them don't want to go back on front lines to meat grinder.

ScipioAfricanus's avatar

Lol you do realize NATO has more men, resources and a untouched rear while Russian rear and logistics is constantly being attacked? Thats why we call for strikes on NATO here, otherwise Russia wont win

The Spectre's avatar

Not counting Americans and Turks, how many soldiers and armaments are left in NATO? Americans don't want to sacrifice themselves for Ukraine. Turks have Israelis coming on them and they will be forced to leave NATO and ask Russia for nuclear umbrella.

Do they match 2.5 mln in Russia and some 3500 nukes on undestructible missiles?

Who are "we" calling on strikes on NATO?

ScipioAfricanus's avatar

It doesnt matter how many soldiers NATO has left. What matters is how many they can mobilize. The answer is 10x more

Victor's avatar

Please elaborate on their "more men" and "more resources". All NATO countries support relatively small armies (due to lack of funds and people willing to join in a war on Russia). Where are those "more resources"? You mean more resources than Russia? Are you kidding? Please explain. They have crippled their industrial base through self-inflicting sanctions denying themselves cheap energy. They are all running deficit economies. Their military hardware has been shown to be substantially inferior to Russian weaponry and far more expensive. Their ability to replace equipment and ammo is severely limited. Their most effective asset is PR which constantly spews hubris and threats by weak, ineffective and hated leaders whom the various populations see are driving them to destruction.

Please tell me where I am wrong.

ScipioAfricanus's avatar

Who has larger economies, Russia or the combined EU, (not even mentioning NATO)? Under a capitalist system (with Russia emulating western capitalism for the past 34 years) the size of the economy matters when it comes to war

Who has a larger population (aka a larger mobilization base)?

Also, you do realize that the EU is able entirely bankroll Ukraine so that it can take more people out of the economy for war without the negative consequences any other country would experience?

Add to that the Kremlins obsession with ensuring that the war does not affect regular peoples lives (it is), they are able to draw only from a limited resource pool meaning that Ukraine/EU can draw a comparable amount of men?

Thats also not mentioning that lack of Russian response means that it looks weak and the EU has no consequences for its actions towards Russia?

Alyosha's avatar

Men mean nothing if direct kinetic war between Russia and NATO breaks out.

It is not going to be marching war. lmao

But anyway, our NATO army is utter shit, even when compared to other NATO armies. Ukies are warfare gods for NATO.

ScipioAfricanus's avatar

Lmao Iran has no nukes but kt was not afraid to strike American bases directly. Nothing happened.

Nobody is going to start a nuclear war over striking a few depots in Germany/Romania/Poland

How did the Russian advance on Kiev ( a Bridge Too Short) lead to an SMO Too Long and Costly?

And how the SMO failed to seize a golden opportunity to control Ukraine in the first critical 50 days of operation?

Let me start by saying I am not disputing whether Russia is winning the SMO.

Clearly, Russia has made a near 20% territorial gain and is slowly gaining territory. That counts for something.

Dobropillia: Novyi Donbas & Stepy captured, 3km from T0514 — Slaviansk-Kramatorsk encirclement begins

🏙 Lyman: 80% captured, city cut into pieces

🏴 Konstantynivka: Final flags raised

🔥 Kharkiv: Kazachi Lopan 15% Russian, push toward Zolochiv

🔄 Dnipro: Breakthrough west of Novopavlivka

What I am saying is that Russia could have controlled Ukraine within 50 days instead of this never-ending attritional WW1 style slow advancing positional warfare, costly in lives and material, draining the economy, and wearing out the patience of the citizens through war fatigue. 5 gruelling years of war and Ukraine remains a threat not only on Russia's Western front but also well behind its frontlines.

https://x.com/Liveuamap/status/2067503280498819400/video/1

Moscow is on fire.

One commenter writes: This is becoming a recurring issue; Ukraine does this daily because it has many factories in Europe manufacturing drones, and they will increase the attacks. Russia let NATO cross all the red lines and is in a dead end.

Now, getting back to the critical first 50 days of the SMO.

Russia could have succeeded in controlling Ukraine by laying siege to Kyiv while pushing forward, encircling AFU strongholds, preventing them from retreating or resupplying and forcing them to surrender en masse along its entire Western front. The proof lies in the subtle notion that Russia fixing maneuver managed to advance within kilometres of Kiev with only about 40,000 soldiers. So a force of about 160,000 soldiers could have sealed the deal by laying the proper siege to Kiev where nothing goes in or out without being destroyed. In other words, Russia should have gone all in for Kiev instead of a fixing manoeuvre followed by a hasty retreat, leaving equipment behind because the roads were all jammed and troops were left stranded.

The SMO started with an assault on Kiev as a fixing maneuver to freeze AFU forces while it overtook the Donbas and south of it. And guess what?

The plan worked briefly.

But the critical mistake was that it had no intentions of controlling Ukraine. It only wanted 4 Oblasts, thinking it would get an easy peace deal, and that would be it. The problem was that there was no peace deal, and that was not it.

Russia underestimated Ukraine's strength, and it lacked the will to make a determined attack to control Ukraine. Instead, Russia inherited the need for a lengthy and costly forever attrition war, which allowed Ukraine to fight on to the point of delivering expensive losses way behind Russian lines, like we see today. Russia went into a gunfight with bows and arrows. It should have known better. Some of us here knew what had to be done. No messing around. Think of what the US would have done in Russian shoes.

Sooner or later, Russia will be forced to control Ukraine as an existential threat before Europe supplies new armies to reinforce it, which sets the stage for a much bigger war at Russia's border. (something the SMO was supposed to prevent from happening.

Never, never underestimate the enemy, especially when they sit at your border.

Russia underestimated, so winning will be a much more costly affair. If only it had the will to execute an all-out plan in the first 50 days.

The 5-year war and counting could have been done in a few months.

The Spectre's avatar

Within the first days of war, Ukrainians begged for peace negotiations. First meeting in Belorus, in Beloveza, under Bennet, the Israeli prime minister. Later in Istambul, under Erdogan.

Preliminary agreements were signed by all sides and awaited signatures by presidents and parliaments.

One of conditions was Russia withdrawal from Kiev suburbs. Russian army was in the centre of Kiev since the beginning of war, within 500 metres from Maidan Square.

Then provocation in Bucha came, with hundreds pro-Russian citizens murdered by the Safari Unit of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs.

That was blamed on the withdrawing Russian army, which left Bucha 3 days before this mass murder.

You can see them here entering Bucha, with no any civilian bodies on the streets. Some Ukrainians wellcoming them with smile on their faces, mentioning Russian previous positions, but never mentioning any civilian bodies.

Titled "Special forces of the National Police are clearing the city of Bucha"

"On April 2, special units of the National Police of Ukraine had begun clearing the area of saboteurs and accomplices of russian troops in the liberated city of Bucha, Kyiv Oblast. Specialists of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service inspect the sites of the russian federation’s war crimes and seize explosives and unexploded ordnance."

Mind, that those police and many civilians speak not Ukrainian, but Russian language or they speak mixed languages.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnRl-1eX4LI

Denis's avatar

Begging for peace was not an excuse if Russia had been determined to win right from the outset of the SMO. You don't get participation points for excuses. Victory knows no compromise.

The Spectre's avatar

Russia has offered to Biden several agreements before war, the last were in August 2021 in Switzerland and in December 2021 at UN Security Council.

Russia didn't want to go to war knowing, that escalation will inevitably lead to 3 WW.

It never wanted to conquer Ukraine, just to stop them joining NATO. That is why only SMO with some 100 000 troops entering Ukraine towards Kiev and taking over 25% of Ukrainian territory.

A week prior, the news will have leaked to the media; the "goblin's" troupe of troubadours, along with the entire political class—from the Rada to local mayors, institutions, and the military high command (including senior field officers and TCC personnel)—will have already fled abroad four or five days earlier.

Opport Knocks's avatar

NATO has gotten rid of their old equipment inventory and very few bodies.

NATO members have learned the lessons of drone warfare and observed Russia's weak spots.

NATO has started producing drones in quantity and Russia cannot touch the production at distant locations.

In 2 years or less, the recent drone swarm on Moscow can be repeated by a factor of 10x.

Forget the past and look forward. You don't need a crystal ball to see where this is headed.

The Spectre's avatar

In 2 years NATO won't exist in the present form.

That would be already after the hot phase of 3 WW has ended.

There would be a neutral and neutralised East Flank, mainly Orthodox Christians (Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Slovakia, Czechs, Poland and Serbia and some other Balkans for a good measure). East Baltics left for their own fate.

Southern and Northern European Blocks.

Turkey under Russian nuclear umbrella.

So many independent identities. They would be in ideological and border conflict with each other.

The USA would withdraw from all Europe.

taukey's avatar

NATO wasted their reserve weapons and haven't replaced it.

NATO sat in the corner while Russia expanded its military and got battle-hardened in real war.

NATO is behind Russia in drone quantity and quality. Once Russia scales its own Starlink sattellites, Ukraine will burn.

This is a cheerleading for a hot phase of WWIII.

GM's avatar

No, this is how we get to WWIII. Either that, or Putin will allow Russia to be destroyed because he is too much of a humanitarian to fight back.

Had he finished the war within a couple months, as was entirely in his power in early 2022, never mind 2014, there would be no further escalation after that and no threat of WWIII.

Schlurpo Sneem's avatar

There is no shortage of options for igniting, or re-igniting, WW III. For instance, now apparently Is-ra-el and India are bestest buddies, since the pivot to China was banjaxed, and there's plenty of aggro to go around in south Asia, too.

Guido Vandeven's avatar

Wrong, Putin wanted to stop even after 2 weeks, Zelensky agreeing but US NATO, CIA and M16 said NJET.

There will never be a WWIII PUTIN will drown the fish, even when some nuclear midget bombs have to be dropped on Germany first, NATO cannot retaliate it will be gone to smithereens and that is already happening without a nuclear deterrence. Sorry for squeezing the never to be WW in the bud.

Trying to stop after two weeks was surrender

Ukraine has to be ended. Completely. There is no other acceptable outcome for Russia.

Annex, occupy, de-Ukrainize.

No other option.

The alternative is what you see now -- any territory the Banderites and the West hold will be used as a platform for attack on Russia -- and it will get much worse.

And obviously the earlier that had been done, the easier it would have been

Guido Vandeven's avatar

No it wasn’t surrender it was returning to Ukraine as a neutral state, but that was impossible for NATO’s expansion politics, and another point Putin had no plans whatsoever to annex Ukraine except for the same condition. I see a similarity between the Gulf was open before the war and let us hope, it will reopen(?) after the war. Ukraine was sovereign!!!

Putin gave an extra dimension to stop Ukraine from being part of NATO, it was obvious that there were large groups of Nazi sympathies, and if some nation is going to pay the price for this Nazi legacy than its Germany. Forget all EU nations, without the (now ex) economic powerhouse Germany, scientific knowhow, military hightech and “immer Kämpfen und Sturmen” mentality, for a third time Germany is the greatest threat for the survival of Russia, its out of the question that they will again be the greatest military power in the EU and I wouldn’t bet on the globe.

GM's avatar

>No it wasn’t surrender it was returning to Ukraine as a neutral state

Anyone who seriously thought this was a possibility is a total imbecile.

Ukraine cannot exist in any other form but as an anti-Russia. It's fundamentally impossible.

Putin of all people, having published that long essay in mid-2021, should know that.

The only solution is for there to be no Ukraine.

Robert's avatar

NATO was prepared for Russia occupying Ukraine. Instead of a conventional war, it would be an insurgency war, with a very hostile Western Ukraine launching plenty of attacks against Russian soldiers. Think USSR occupation of Afghanistan or US in Iraq but worse. This war, Russia is liberating territory that voted to join Russia, and the majority of the population support Russia. There is no easy solution to this war, just a long toil to financial exhaustion of the West.

GM's avatar

Ah, yes, it's so much worse to have an insurgency than to have a thousand drones and a dozen missiles flying to Moscow in a day.

So much worse...

Dhdh's avatar

how exactly putin could have won war in a couple of months?

GM's avatar
Jun 19Edited

Back in 2022 just another 100,000 men would have won it.

The war was lost when the battle of Nikolaev failed. Which it naturally did given that a single BTG was sent to capture a city of half a million.

This, of course, goes back further -- had he not surrendered Mariupol because Rinat Akhmetov asked him to back in 2015 and so that he could sign Minsk, there would have been no battle of Mariupol in 2022, and those forces would have been sent to capture Nikolaev.

But as it is in 2022, just a little bit more effort would have done it.

Also, Chernigov was sieged and was a matter of time. Then he pulled out. Sumy was nearly encircled, same thing.

Had Nikolaev fallen, Odessa would have too. And that takes away the Black Sea coast and with Chernigov taken and Kiev, Sumy and Kharkov blockaded, some ten million men in mobilization resource would have been taken off the table.

Had all this been combined with proper decapitation strikes of all the oligarchy, all the military and all the political leadership, it would have been a very rapid collapse after that.

If you are asking how the war can be won in two months now, in 2026, the answer is it can't. But it can be won in about four to six. The key thing is to isolate Ukraine from NATO so that it cannot be resupplied. So:

Step 1. Russian mobilization. Another million men are needed. Tanks to go with them are not, this is an occupation and clean up force. The current force is not sufficient for the task

Step 2. Total blockade of Odessa. Sink everything that enters the waters north of the Danube river delta

Step 3. Bunker buster tactical nukes on all the border crossings, so that they are completely blocked. Not at the small settlements there, but in the empty from people stretches of road and railway just inside Ukraine, where it won't kill anyone. A 50-kt nuke excavates millions of tons of earth and makes for a hundreds of meters-wide crater. Good luck restoring the connection quickly.

Step 4. Keep striking if they try to build new roads and railways around the craters.

Step 5. Strategic nukes on Europe if they try to organize airlifts into Ukraine, launch direct NATO strikes on Russia etc,. for total annihilation. But again, you need to have the men ready to then move in and occupy the land permanently.

With Ukraine cut off from supplies, it can then be finished off. It's not going to be quick, because it has already been pumped with so much stuff -- it will take a while for that materiel to be exhausted. But there is no other way.

That is the price you pay for not handling business properly and in time -- you then have to take much more extreme measures.

weirdo's avatar

Why are you still trying to argue with those western imb...les? They know nothing about our history, our convictions and our determination. A bunch of Putin apologists, that'll never fathom anything regarding eastern europe.

GM's avatar

I've pointed this out many times here -- the racism and Russophobia that Western politicians are very open about are present in the Western Putin fanboys too, just subdued and implicit.

But when you look at their callous attitude towards Russian military casulaties, civilian deaths and injuries, and damage to infrastructure, it all becomes immediately clear. They are indeed little different. Russian lives don't matter to either side in the West, and Putin is just a tool to use in their internal political crusade.

Dhdh's avatar

sorry - but this nuclear stuff is just not tenable. do you have an answer otherwise?

GM's avatar

1) Of course it tenable. More importantly, it is what the official Russian doctrine stipulates

2) There is no other way, with one exception. The ship has sailed in terms of conventional measures. You have to seal the borders, and by this point Ukraine is too strong and has too many drones for that to be feasible without nukes.

The exception is if China was to enter the war on Russia's side, stop supplying Ukraine with drones, and turn the factories on to the max to pump up drones and missiles for Russia. Then the problem can be solved without nukes.

China doesn't want to do it, and it doesn't look like that will change, so here we are.

The West believed Putin to be bluffing we he said that NATO membership of Ukraine was a red flag. Imagine the consequences of not going to war with NATO - Ukraine part of NATO, and Sevastopol a US naval base.

Victor's avatar

This is a good point. Russia, rightly or wrongly, has decided to meet its objectives in a particular manner (uncomfortable to many on this site) and is steadily pushing towards those objectives. What is being overlooked is the other side of that picture - how are NATO's objectives being met? NATO wanted a military presence on the border of Russia to bleed Russia dry, quickly destroy their economy, deny them the European market, and eventually break Russia into manageable pieces. It was NATO that thought the war would be over in a matter of weeks, not Russia.

How has all that worked out for NATO? Not well at all. Russia is not depleted. Its economy is both supporting the war and a relatively prosperous civilian economy. There are no NATO military bases in Ukraine. Sevastopol is firmly in Russian hands. The European economy is a shambles - they have lost their industrial base by denying themselves cheap Russian energy, seeing their energy-intensive industries being shut down or transferred to other countries like the US. They are now more dependent on US markets than ever which is seriously driving up their costs. They are becoming far more politically unstable as their people are waking up to the mess their leaders have made to the economy and their lives. Their armies are running on fumes, most of them significantly under-funded with little hope of recovery due to budget constraints. Were it not for US support, their military capacity would be on the same level as Ukraine's without NATO support.

So whose objectives are really being played out here? It damn sure isn't the West's.

Herman's avatar

Interesting take. It is true, the Russian glass may not be full, but the NATO glass isn't either - something we tend to forget. The SMO "cockblocked" this, to use the word of the first commenter.

Victor's avatar

Actually, at the risk of seeming to peer out of rose-coloured glasses, I would say Russia's glass is overflowing. Their economy has supported simultaneously a civilian economy and a war one. They have implemented huge modern infrastructure projects across the country putting in modern airports, upgrading seaports, building roads and bridges, improving international trade logistics, implementing a very successful import substitution project. Their cities are gleaming with new structures, improved roads, businesses booming and wages increasing. Russia is encouraging many trade agreements with multiple international partners. And whilst the war is having an understandably negative impact on economic growth, it is certainly not destroying it.

As for military capability, Russia and its people clearly recognise that this is not a war with Ukraine but with the West. It's war of attrition is not only to drain Ukraine but also the West, not only of military hardware and ammo, but of its economies and political stability. Russia has used it time of attrition warfare not only to drain Ukraine and the West but to hugely build up its military manpower, reorganise and develop strategies that fit with its overall objectives, restart its war-related factories, produce an immense inventory of weaponry and ammo, create new weapons based on new technologies that the West can only dream of, and lastly to prepare itself for the coming inevitable European war. As Putin stated recently, if Europe wants a war with Russia, Russia is now ready, so go for it.

And BTW, if it takes 550 drones (at least 500 of which were shot down) to hit a refinery located on the far outskirts of Moscow producing a relatively small fire already under control, then an objective person has to come to the conclusion that that's pretty pathetic.

Mikey Johnson's avatar

Most people cant hold more than one perspective at a time in the head. And most people tend to forget whats happened a month ago.

So when we have a 12-year conflict and a 5-year War you can be sure that the majority just follows ”the latest narrative”.

In every conflict and War you have to keep multiple perspectives in the head and also transform and include all the historic lines in that complex picture.

In this case most of us here understands that US/NATO is fighting a death match with an attrition tactic. And Russia is being attrited. Those few TU-22 and Bears launching missiles into Ukraine is nothing Russia can depend on in a real War with west. Bears are obsolete in a real war and having lost 2/3 of the likewise obsolete TU-22 is of major concern. Russia has lost most of its KA-50 Alligators and thousands of tanks, BMP:s and other precious equipment. Sure they are building new ones but nevertless attrition on grand scale.

On the other hand US/NATO is weakened internally and morally. Most inventoriies are half empty but there is plenty of aircrafts left to launch devastating attacks if time comes. They have used up thousands of missiles against Russia and attrited their own AD down to minimum.

And yes both sides was surprised that the SMO didnt go as planned (Russia) and that the monumental counter-attack from the West didnt crumble Russia.

Meantime 2 million young men has perished…

Victor's avatar

Yes, Russia is losing equipment - it's war. However, it is also producing like crazy and has far more inventory now than at the beginning of the conflict. As for the Tu-22s, true they are of limited supply, but not really needed anymore as both the Kinzhal and esp the Zircon have been fitted for fighter-bombers and now the enemy is faced not with a relatively easy large target like the Tu-22 but must deal with highly effective, accurate stealthy hypersonic missiles that can't be defended against and that can be launched from virtually any direction by multitudes of fighter-bombers that can't be defended against. Who needs the Tu-22? They will be used until they are gone and then no more will be produced.

And yes, you can do lots of damage, but you can't win a war by air even against a small country, much less a colossal like Russia. Europe will never learn.

GM's avatar

>Russia, rightly or wrongly, has decided to meet its objectives in a particular manner

A couple corrections:

1) Putin's hands are not tied. The military's hands are tied. By Putin. He has the power to end existence of the oligarchs and the central bank, but he refuses to use it because he is on their team

2) It could have been ended in a few days once upon a time. No longer. It will take several months at least now, because Ukraine was allowed to be pumped with so much weapons.

Mark's avatar

Agreed, Putin is on side with the globalist types and it is the military whose hands are tied. However, if allowed to use full force it could still be ended quickly. Russian soldiers pay the price of political games with their blood.

GM's avatar

You have to wonder how much longer Russian soldiers will put up with this.

Which, BTW, is part of the Catch 22 of not being able to win under the SMO format and restrictions while refusing to relax those restrictions and to mobilize. The oligarchy refuses mobilization for economic reasons, but also because they fear another 1917.

Back then millions were mobilized and got to experience first-hand the wonders of the competence of later imperial Russia in a pointless war that Russia had absolutely no business being part of. It should have stayed out of it and swooped in at the end to pick up the pieces, but the shortsightedness and personal hubris of the existing at the time oligarchy decided otherwise.

Then those millions formed the backbone of the Red Army.

Well, we can't have such a threat now, can we?

Even more so given that Russian tanks entered Ukraine in February 2022 waving Soviet flags. Which must have sent chills down the spines of Putin and the oligarchs, and explains a lot about what followed.

GM I appreciate your responses all over, but I think its falling on deaf ears. For example, I think it is fair to say Ukraine (and Russia) are BOTH militarily more powerful today than they were in 2022. But that absolutely does not fit in with the "Ukraine is collapsing" narrative. They aren't. They launch massive long range strikes, their aviation is active every day, they are amazing at drone warfare, their specops game is top notch, and so on. Russia is also fighting very hard but this is very much a peer game now. Yes, Ukraine would absolutely fall apart if its logistics & supply chain were not wholly supported by Europe, but so what? The practical reality is unlimited money, unmolested logistics, and basically 17 countries worth of production freely entering at 0 risk. Its a recipie for certain defeat

Henry Brewer's avatar

2) Depleted Western arsenals and treasuries

How can you say that Putin "tolerate" this strike or even "accept" it ? This is war right ? Do you "accept" or "tolerate" that your enemy is attacking you ? No, because tolerance or accepting stuff have nothing to do with war. You fight anyway in a war. And you plan your way to long term effect, victory, objectives. Thus, how come people like you absolutely wants a public "tit for tat" strike with a clear message "This is for Moscow's strike !!" ? Russians doesn't fight for you or for optics. Ukrainians do fight for optics, because they need the money from the West. And a sale pitch of this war is intended to fool everyone's public in the West to give them the impression that this money will serve the Ukrainian's victory, a dubious claim to say the least. In fact, it's mostly grift money to some MIC.

Soviet Leader were in a different times so were the Tsar.

It's strange to glorify one of the Soviet's weakness : optics and their inability to assess properly the reality. Sure, it make a better spectacle. A defeating one nonetheless.

As for the plans the Russians have about NATO involvment and the rest, it's easy to say that they have none just beause they don't signify them to you in a obvious and flashy way, and maybe nuclear way. It has nothing to do with birthday wishes.

If Putin cut completly himself from speaking with Trump, would it advance further the victory for the Russian side ? It would maybe satisfy some hardliner, but that does nothing for the war in itself. Beside, it's not Zelensky's birthday. Even the Iranians speak to the murderers.

In short, stop confusing any diplomacy for surrender.

GM's avatar

>How can you say that Putin "tolerate" this strike or even "accept" it ? This is war right ? Do you "accept" or "tolerate" that your enemy is attacking you ?

There is a big difference between speaking with Trump licking his ass in the most humiliating for the country way

Jean-Sébastien's avatar

"If you can make it stop within hours to days of deciding to, then yes, you are tolerating it"

And ... that involves what ? If you think Russian have a brillant plan that magically ends the war and NATO and all future threats just by saying so, sure, that's simple. In reality, it must come with a cost : you "tolerate" or "accept" other things : casualty, risks, economic instability, etc.

You cannot argue something that extreme without explaining the fine print of that brillant plan. Also, I don't think you're a Russian General, with all the inside info.

"There is a big difference between speaking with Trump licking his ass in the most humiliating for the country way".

Sure. I don't think that Putin have done that by wishing a happy birthday to Trump. What you describe imply real concession that affect the war or the like. Putin may be the only one in the Russian leadership that thinks that the American aren't that involved or commited in the Ukraine war. But that isn't "liking his ass". At most, it's a factual error. And Putin's view are not static either.

>What you describe imply real concession that affect the war or the like.

In the vain hope of getting a deal they wasted 18 months in which Ukraine was armed to the teeth with long-range strike capabilities.

That is a huge real concession, an entirely unnecessary and unforced error

>And ... that involves what ?

https://www.mid.ru/en/foreign_policy/international_safety/1434131/

It involves following your own damn doctrine

"In the vain hope of getting a deal they wasted 18 months in which Ukraine was armed to the teeth with long-range strike capabilities.

How come you can say they "wasted 18 months" ?

Russia has done nothing for 18 months ? You're speaking in absolute, that's the problem.

It's the same for the document. How can you be so sure that Russia has NOT followed its doctrine ?

Risk-assessment isn't a fixed science or fact.

Bendt Obermann's avatar

Are you stating that in those "wasted 18 months" - pick any 18 month span of your choosing - Westworld including UKR became stronger relative to RU ?

Bendt Obermann's avatar

Neither would Ghengis Khan ! What's your point ? This is assuming we know what any historical figure would do in today's reality, with the requisite knowledge...Putin said that in the same spirit I say "Have a nice day" to arseholes in the street.

Henry Brewer's avatar

I understand that you’re looking forward to a nuclear war, but fortunately some of the people who actually have influence over the course of events are more sensible than that.

Feral Finster's avatar

Perhaps you can point to a post where I called for nuclear war?

I'd like to know, because if you find one, that means someone hacked my account.

Anyway, NATO has lost any fear of Russia.

Bendt Obermann's avatar

Nope, NATO is not totally lacking of fear of RU.

Yoni Reinón's avatar

ernest nichols's avatar

And Putin will give a stern 4 hour lecture covering the historical antecedents of this back to Peter the Great. And then launch a ferocious strike on the waste dump in a suburb of Kiev.

While Moscow burns. And a single Western decision hub in Ukraine full of NATO officers is never hit.

But fuck he’s safe in his bunker right? Best not to escalate. He still wants to be invited back to Berlin one day.

Henry Brewer's avatar

I see that this discussion has already been completely taken over by Budanov’s employees.

nicholas hughes's avatar

It's interesting to find other people who think Putin and his allies are Fxking the Russian war effort for some unknown reason The kicker being is If we can see this sure as hell a whole bunch of Russians are sensing the fact Putin is not serious about fighting and winning this war

Natalia's avatar

Same MI6/Ukrainian pattern and so predictable for those who have been watching the SMO since the beginning. Don't know why Russia tolerates it but there you go. Wonder why the West thinks Russia is weak? A totally mystery to me. At this point, I'm so tired of seeing dead Russian civilians (besides the Palestinians and Lebanese) my mental health is at risk so I refuse to watch the self-inflicted suicide.

Mark Watson's avatar

My desire to remain informed is in direct conflict with my desire to remain sane....Killing Russian civilians makes Russia more determined to succeed . At the top of the escalation ladder we all die.

GM's avatar

Russian civilians have been killed in ever increasing numbers for now the fifth years, plus the eihgt years before that in the Donbass.

Putin hasn't lifted a finger to stop it.

Yoni Reinón's avatar

On the contrary. He launched the SMO just to prevent these massacres. And he succeded big time. If it wasnt for Putin, the Donbass would be human sludge now, and you would be super happy.

taukey's avatar

"Wonder why the West thinks Russia is weak?"

Ideological imperative. They must believe. Because West is colonial by its very nature. They can't imagine a life without predatory subjugation of others. And Russia is the biggest prize there is: 120T in natural resources. Add the fact that Russia has successfuly resisted and them for centuries, an insult in itself. Russia's very existence is tangible proof that West isn't superior as they claim. Imagine the desire for revenge, greed, the hate.

GM's avatar

The West thinks Russia is weak because objectively it is weak now.

Political weakness is the same as military weakness if it manifests itself in how the military operates.

All the biggest warmongers, whiners and gloaters here are bitter old farts.

Also, the lowest percent in the answers were doomers, but if you read the comments section it is just them all over the place.

Raquel Landau's avatar

OK, according to your "logic" all the younger farts are way smarter and not as bitter that Russia does not wish to start the WW3. Right? What does the age have to do with it?

Alyosha's avatar

What age has to do with it is that old farts are approaching or already exceeded their theoretical life expectancy and does not really matter if they burn now.

We have two very vocal specimens here that think that optimal population size is 100 and 500 million, respectively. That stone age is the way to go.

Younger pro escalation farts are usually some iteration of westerners that havent experienced much of anything they advocate for. So, it is too theoretical for them. Think all could be fine.

I have a friend fart like this who genuinely thinks Rus should let Donbass population get slaughtered, because it would have been good for PR and perception management. Dude is professor, btw.

Of course he is one iteration of Anglos. Never ever anything touches them. That is why i am all for glassing Anglos realms if poop hits the fan.

Hopefully we do not get to that point.

They are both "Rambos" urging some escalation, but they both fled from their countries. Only to whine hard subsequently.

The more such attacks are permitted to be launched without an adequate response inside Ukraine, and beyond, the more fatal and devastating the attacks will inevitably become.

20 years of this? I don't think so. If this keeps up, by the end of next year thousands of drones will be launched into major Russian cities on a weekly basis, paralyzing the country.

Either Russia stops this now with devastating retribution -- without warnings or bluster -- or it will never stop.

Putin's pussyfooting is no longer acceptable. And, if Russia simply cannot muster the response necessary, then it must end the war.

GM's avatar

>by the end of next year thousands of drones will be launched into major Russian cities on a weekly basis

Thousands of drones are being launched into major Russian cities on a weekly basis, the average is stably over 500 a day now.

But it will be tens of thousands soon and then AD will be overloaded. Today was a demo run on how to overload it in Moscow with a mass saturation attack

>And, if Russia simply cannot muster the response necessary, then it must end the war.

It will not be allowed to. They have smelled weakness and will go for the kill.

In WWII, the nazis destroyed Leningrad but the USSR won after all. This is a walk in the park in comparision. Go to the front GM. Russia just need a little of your push

GM's avatar
Jun 19Edited

Spot the differences.

1) The Nazis destroyed Leningrad because there was nothing Stalin could do to stop them. There is plenty Putin can do to win the war, he just doesn't want to do it

2) Stalin was fighting back with all he had from Day 1. Putin is not fighting back at all

Yoni Reinón's avatar

You hate Putin, so what can you say?

bemused's avatar

You don't find Putin's actions to be acceptable. Well, I'll bet that will make him come to his senses and come to you, hat in hand, to ask how he should conduct military affairs.

Is it possible for Russia to shoot down the starlink satellites?

GM's avatar
Jun 19Edited

Yes, they have mulitple systems to do that. And no, not one by one, as I am sure some moron will jump in to object about the logistical impossibility of doing it, all of them at once.

As usual, it hasn't been done because there is no order from the top.

Randolorian's avatar

What would be the point? Starlink launches new batches of satellites into orbit at least once a week. It would also mark a major escalation, and Russia's satellites are just as vulnerable. It's not worth it

GM's avatar

1) The new batches would be destroted similarly, if they managed to get them up

2) They would in fact not be able to get any new batches up for the next 5-10 years because of Kesslerization

>Russia's satellites are just as vulnerable

3) Who has more satellites and benefits more from them now? So who would net gain from all satellites being disabled?

Which would not be the case, it would be this specific oribt.

BTW, Russia's Rassvet is in a higher orbit than Starlink. I can imagine a situation in which Russia gets a few hundred Rassvets up, then Kesslerizes Starlink, which would leave the US without Starlink, but keep Rassvet up. That would be funny.

But with these people in the Kremlin, well...

Henry Brewer's avatar

I’m surprised that with your military and many other kinds of experience, you aren’t already running important combat operations. But of course you do run them—right after you sit down at your computer, once your mom has cooked you lunch. You’re very important.

Yoni Reinón's avatar

Oh, they need you in the Kremlin. You could win the war in two weeks. 24 hours. Trump style.

Randolorian's avatar

Starlink has over 10k satellites in its constellation. The PLANET doesn't have enough ASAT weapons to destroy this constellation, let alone Russia, unless they used an EMP, which is a shit idea for obvious reasons

Starlink's low orbit requires active station keeping, meaning that atmospheric drag will force de-orbiting of any debris

Robert Auld's avatar

Shooting down satellites of any kind is a serious matter. The resulting debris would be a danger to everything else orbiting at anywhere near the same level. In the worst case, it would make launching anything further too risky for months or years. I mean anything--no astronauts, no nothing.

Of course, GM hasn't thought of that or doesn't care, as their sole purpose in posting here is to stir up arguments and distraction.

GM's avatar

Kesslerization is precisely how you shoot down Starlink.

There are very specific Russian projects for doing it with just a single rocket launch that will disperse a huge amount of shotgun pellet in the Stalink orbit to initiate the process.

The West gains a lot more from having satellites up than Russia would lose from the destruction of the Russian ones.

But more importantly, Starlink is a nuclear first-strike system. And thus must not be allowed to exist, as a matter of utmost importance for national security.

bemused's avatar

Just when you thought GM couldn't say anything stupider, he surprises you.

Henry Brewer's avatar

I see you’re quite the expert. You read that on the internet, didn’t you?

PFC Billy's avatar

@Sam

With good reason, nobody wants to shoot first.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kessler_syndrome

It is quite possible to destroy Starlink satellites, they are only about 300 to 340 miles up. There are about 10,000 Starlink satellites in orbit presently, so all the debris from Starlink plus destroyed Russian satellites in the inevitable escalating tit for tat exchanges would quickly fill low earth orbit with debris capable of wrecking other satellites and deny those very useful orbits to everyone for quite a while.

I'm impressed that Russia is prioritizing restablishing deterrence against pensioners in yachts rather than determined and cynical adversaries in a proxy's strategic rear.

The Spectre's avatar

Being pensioners they have not realised that their lives are in danger in collision with a warship which was stationary, without a chance to change course. They have missed multiple radio, flares and sound signals and were woken up only by shots over their heads. Probably they have saved their lives.

Don't need a brain to read this:

"Andrei Martynov is pretty confident that it’s going to be necessary for the Russians to drop an Oreshnik or three on the European power centers, as they did with Kiev last night, to convince them to stop playing poke the Bear.

NATO criminals are doing everything they can to censor any info coming out of destroyed sites, especially around Belaya Tserkov airfield complex which contained many things ranging from bunkers to aviation repair and “mad maxing” facilities for all kinds of flying means for strikes against Russia.

https://voxday.net/2026/05/24/kiev-meets-mr-hazel/

Next time it could be Berlin or Paris and they can do nothing about it.

It’s understandable that the Russians feel no need to save the Europeans from Clown World. After all, they had to save themselves, and if the nations of Europe are sovereign and healthy, they are a proven potential threat to Europe. But Clown World is the greater evil, and the Russians know perfectly well who is behind Ukraine and using it as a proxy to make war on them."

Mark Watson's avatar

With the signing of the "MOU" it could indicate that the situation regarding WW3 could be changing. The wests logistics are under pressure and the willingness to keep fighting is draining from everyone but the epstein class . The UK is scraping the bottom of the budget barrel and is facing ponying up for its Ukraine guarantees. Germany is going to Canada, cap in hand for more oil , but the USA will need to refill its reserves and will probably get priority. It's also interesting that Trump is also lambasting NATO for its lack of help with the Iran fiasco. All of this has the caveat that everyone is spinning and lying . Thank you to Simplicius for providing verified information regarding the conflict .
