You’re correct although that specific point isn’t material to Simp’s article. But it does raise the question of why they didn’t fly the AH-6s back out on the C-130s / why did they blow up the C-130s / who blew up the C-130s?
The information sphere is rather crowded right now, but if the photos in the desert of the wreckage, including the Little Birds, were the area being discussed where the failure happened, that is incredibly dry area as it has suffered from persistent drought conditions. You can even see it in the photo. I do not want to run wild with speculation, but I can at least see the C-130s taking too long to use in a critical time window so they had to be abandoned; it is at least plausible. But to also need to destroy Helis which can move quickly would need to be because of a highly nuanced situation, such as just so happening to run out of fuel.
But the number of aircraft and personnel also raise suspicion about how the events unfolded. Trump and Centcom do not tell the truth, and the IRGC is an interested party, but it will be interesting what ends up coming out over the coming days that clarifies the incident.

They are SOF little birds so it would be normal to destroy them to avoid capture. Not saying that’s the case but it wouldn’t be weird. They would also be unable to leave the area without refuelling so they might be sacrificed if the operation was compromised.
It is more that the entire thing seems to imply suddenly needing to evacuate - I doubt the plan meant that two C-130s, apparently of the variety that cost 100 million a piece, and the Little Birds, which might run 5 million a piece depending on loadout, were to be sacrificed for a bare-minimum cost of a quarter of a billion dollars in losses. The entire story and implications of the timeline are deeply suspicious to me.

If the got the WSO safely out and nobody else was killed or left behind - then it is a success. They have lots of resources to replace them. Although if this becomes a common occurrence it will add up.

I personally do not think it would have made sense to send a C-130 in the first place when a few blackhawks are not only better equipped to engage approaching ground forces, but can get out of the area and join up with another low-flying plane for refueling.
If the two C-130s got stuck in sand somehow, even though it looks more like rock with a thin layer of loose sediment but I don't know, then wouldn't the three extra C-130s they sent in response have been vulnerable to the same issue? Were the Little Birds outside the C-130 or did the C-130 transport them in?
I think something else was going on, and the rescue was just a coincidental confluence of circumstance. The deployed assets were overkill for the mission, and the losses to me were not planned and were costly - as if they had to leave in a hurry and it was not planned. A rescue operation would be a great excuse to explain a pullout from a compromised special forces mission, but that is extreme speculation for now.
It seems like over the 48 hours this operation occurred, in addition to the lost F-15E (100m), there was reporting that 2 blackhawks of some variety (maybe Pave Hawk so 40m+) had been hit and forced away from the area, a C-130 (100m) may or may not have been hit on day one and either crashed or had to make an emergency landing. There were 2 A-10s (40m or so) shot down that day, but I believe only 1 was in the area. Then on the day of the rescue we lose 2 C-130s (200m), 4 little birds (20m maybe), 2 reapers (60m) and perhaps 2 more blackhawks of some variety (40m + again).
In the worst case scenario, the loss of the F-15E to enemy fire, incurred half a billion dollars in lost aircraft alone not counting a single other expensive. Certainly this cannot be the norm for when a pilot ejects over enemy territory.
The political damage to Trump if/when Iran has live POWs is enough motivation to spend whatever it takes. It all goes on the national tab and the klepotcratic class aren't paying any of it.

The Little Birds were flown in by the C-130s. I heard the 2 C-130s nose wheels sank in soft sand. The Little Birds don't have the range to fly to safety and they can't be refueled mid-air, so they had to be destroyed along with the 2 C-130s.

The problem with that is that the Dems were in power for four years and had access to the Epstein files all that time. The information sphere is rather crowded right now, but if the photos in the desert of the wreckage, including the Little Birds, were the area being discussed where the failure happened, that is incredibly dry area as it has suffered from persistent drought conditions. You can even see it in the photo. I do not want to run wild with speculation, but I can at least see the C-130s taking too long to use in a critical time window so they had to be abandoned; it is at least plausible. But to also need to destroy Helis which can move quickly would need to be because of a highly nuanced situation, such as just so happening to run out of fuel.
But the number of aircraft and personnel also raise suspicion about how the events unfolded. Trump and Centcom do not tell the truth, and the IRGC is an interested party, but it will be interesting what ends up coming out over the coming days that clarifies the incident.

What if they had lost 5 C-130s and gotten everyone out? At what point should you say the operation itself was a failure even if the objective was achieved?
I personally do not think it would have made sense to send a C-130 in the first place when a few blackhawks are not only better equipped to engage approaching ground forces, but can get out of the area and join up with another low-flying plane for refueling.
If the two C-130s got stuck in sand somehow, even though it looks more like rock with a thin layer of loose sediment but I don't know, then wouldn't the three extra C-130s they sent in response have been vulnerable to the same issue? It seems like over the 48 hours this operation occurred, in addition to the lost F-15E (100m), there was reporting that 2 blackhawks of some variety (maybe Pave Hawk so 40m+) had been hit and forced away from the area, a C-130 (100m) may or may not have been hit on day one and either crashed or had to make an emergency landing. There were 2 A-10s (40m or so) shot down that day, but I believe only 1 was in the area. Then on the day of the rescue we lose 2 C-130s (200m), 4 little birds (20m maybe), 2 reapers (60m) and perhaps 2 more blackhawks of some variety (40m + again).
In the worst case scenario, the loss of the F-15E to enemy fire, incurred half a billion dollars in lost aircraft alone not counting a single other expensive. Certainly this cannot be the norm for when a pilot ejects over enemy territory.
The political damage to Trump if/when Iran has live POWs is enough motivation to spend whatever it takes. It all goes on the national tab and the klepotcratic class aren't paying any of it.

The Little Birds were flown in by the C-130s. I heard the 2 C-130s nose wheels sank in soft sand. The Little Birds don't have the range to fly to safety and they can't be refueled mid-air, so they had to be destroyed along with the 2 C-130s.

I wonder how high the were when they ejected? Could this explain why they couldn't find the WSO? That they drifted far apart on the way down? Or maybe they ejected at different times? Instead of making someone else answer about ejecting - I asked Grok who says the pilot can eject both seats. If both are ejected at the same time - the rear seat WSO ejects about a half second before the up front pilot.
So I suspect they both ejected at the same time, or within the same second, and then they must have drifted apart a fair distance.
