In the modern world of cheap drones and hypersonic missles, the U.S. is still stuck in the post WW2 tactical fiasco of producing complex, expensive weapons systems that don't work.....F35s are being shipped without working radar systems and no light at the end of the tunnel. $35 million Reaper drones are regularly shot down by the Houthis. Patriot missile batteries are running dry and are markedly ineffective beyond a certain point. Patrick Cockburn documented the lack of competition in the MIC suppliers leading to expensive and ineffective weapons.....his expertise was in the Abrams tank. Maintaining an empire burns real resources and barring a nuclear exchange, Israel and the West are toast....I doubt China is that worried from a military PoV....but you are correct that China wants to get on with business....war is bad for that and sucks resources dry that could be used more productively
