What's itching me is if Maduro's lawyer, Pollack is working Probono?

Van's avatar

This is exactly right.

Feral Finster's avatar

"Any serious court would have kicked this case out before Maduro even showed up."

They won't. And saying that this is a kangaroo court is true, but so what? Maduro remains in custody.

I say it again, this Venezuela charade will be the US’s undoing No one likes Americans, or should I say likes them even less.

Really depends where on the globe you live. In many parts of the world the average citizen actually thinks the US is like it was back in the 60s with full freedom and unlimited growth for everyone. The wake up call only sets in once they arrive at the US Borders.

>the US is like it was back in the 60s with full freedom and unlimited growth for everyone

It wasn't like that in the 1960s either, it just got much worse so people idealize the past

It never was like that -- it has been a rapacious oligarchy exploiting and repressing those unfortunate to not be able to resist since its beginning, it's just that for some time that repression and exploitation could be externalized towards the natives at the frontier and the black slaves, then expanded towards various other groups and countries.

But perpetual growth always hits limits, and that eventually means the repression and exploitation has to be turned inwards towards at least some of those who previously benefited from it. They are the naturally quite unhappy about it, but instead of going after the system of repression and exploitation it is much easier to idealize the mythical past and to think that bringing back some superficial elements of it will bring the whole thing back. Classic cargo cultism.

Still, such growing unrest does pose a threat to the system, so it has to become even more aggressive externally in order to rob others to paper over the cracks internally. Which, as you can see by the reaction within the US to what happened in Venezuela, is cheered by most Americans. Because deep down they know they will get some crumbs thrown their way too. Just as they benefited from all previous such crimes -- after all, the place is built on their foundation.

The General Moron is back speaking about things he knows nothing about again. To the average American the 60,70s were a time when My Father just a lowly "Steelworker" raised 4 children put 2 of us through college, paid for weddings for the other 2 and my Mother never needed to work. We were not wealthy but we never wanted for anything. That is why Americans never cared about foreign policy. People lived within their communities and that was enough for most.

GM's avatar

>To the average American the 60,70s were a time when My Father just a lowly "Steelworker" raised 4 children put 2 of us through college, paid for weddings for the other 2 and my Mother never needed to work.

Thank you for making my point.

Your father enjoyed those benefits.

Meanwhile the average Guatemalan, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Korean, etc. went through what exactly in that period in the hands of the CIA and the US military?

But you never thought about that, did you? And you supported it. Which makes you just as much of a despicable scum as the people who directly did it, but you don't like to think about that either, do you?

Also, to be noted, there were still enough resources internally in the US to support that lifestyle even without invading other countries back then. Conventional oil in the CONUS had not yet peaked (it would do so in the early 1970s, thus the crisis that followed). But that is no longer the case now, thus the current naked resource grabs are even more directly benefiting the regular American. Thus the MAGAtards cheering for what Trump is doing.

Sure, call me scum and a host of whatever names make you feel better. You are pathetic, trying to tell me what I do or don't think about. You have no idea what I think about, just as I said in my original reply. You constantly speak about things you know nothing about. I have said many times that "We" (Americans) bear plenty of responsibility for our Govt. and I never try to escape reality. Unlike you, I live in the real world not some Communist fantasy land.

This has to be the most idiotic statement you have made to date "the current naked resource grabs are even more directly benefiting the regular American. "

Also- over 70% of Americans are opposed to any and all military action in Venezuela but since you are a firm believer in the corrupt Jewish Media you think Americans are cheering this on!

You are being much too harsh and critical of the American working class. The average American citizen has profited little from imperial plunder with perhaps somewhat lower taxes because plunder paid for the military and then, of course, cheap imports were nice. Imports came at a cost to workers, though, because soon enough, foreign imports replaced domestic industry.

They also didn't need an adequate education, and the government was quite happy with them as dumber-than-rocks and malleable, easily frightened and full of ignorant patriotism.

The effective left had been effectively marginalized and unable to reach most of them.

When their owners decided to send their jobs elsewhere, they reacted with predictable ignorant bovine herd behavior, blaming Black people, immigrants and whatever else OAnon told them was responsible. Roast baby at the pizza joint? Sure.

They wait now, like baby birds with their little beaks gaping, for some regurgitated vomit from the administration to tell their little brains what to think about Venezuela.

Norma Brown's avatar

yes, I grew up in a country I truly loved and appreciated. we were quite poor, my mother was a seamstress, divorced, five kids and a grown daughter married. We never went without our meals, our lunches for school or school lunch money. We had nothing at all extra, but I got a first-rate education in a very safe small town outside of DC and the opportunity to go farther at every stage. Until Vietnam, when it all exploded, which is what happens when you throw kids under fire for absolutely fuck-all. So if you look at our foreign policy, you see one America, but if you were growing up here, you see something different. I would note that I have seen this also in the former USSR, where those who grew up then felt it was a safe benign space (post-Stalin) that gave them many opportunities to excel. But from the outside, it was not a pretty picture.

Or the 1860s or the 1760s or the 1660s. Follow the history of what is now the USA and you will find an unbroken trail of lies, deceit, cheating, robbery, and murder going right back to the first European colonists.

Their European roots are the source. These people did not suddenly become "infected" when they set foot on the Americas. Just like smallpox that devastated the indigenous peoples, they were already infected before they came to the Western Hemisphere. As much as the world wants to blame the US, this mindset goes all the way back to their homelands, in Europe. Who holds the keys to power in Europe?

Tom Welsh's avatar

On the other hand, they were to a great extent self-selected. They were mostly tough, confident, self-reliant people without many scruples, prepared to do almost anything to succeed. The far greater number who stayed behind in Europe would have been, on average, less energetic, determined, and ruthless.

My parents left the sharecropper life in Arkansas. White or Black, there was no future in it. Sharecropping was the most equalizing force behind the wholesale flight from the South.

No one in their right mind chose to remain a sharecropper.

Southern Blacks fled to a very racist North—not because it was virtuous, but because even hostility there offered more opportunity than permanent entrapment. The North was often no less racist than the South, just differently organized and more economically dynamic. Southern Whites were treated better than their Black compatriot refugees—but that advantage was narrow and conditional. Their white skin bought eventual acceptance, and Northern animosity toward them faded with time. At the start, however, Southern Whites were disposable labor—useful until worn down, tolerated once assimilated, and never mistaken for equals.

The South is forever saddled with Jim Crow, while the North is cast as an Emerald Castle on the hill. That story is comforting—and false. The reality is far more uncomfortable for Northern mythology, which prefers moral posturing to historical honesty.

I am one of the descendants of White men and women who traveled the “Hillbilly Highway,” fleeing sharecropping for a better life in the industrial North.

Victor's avatar

I think you will find at that time there were other forces at work to encourage the naturally supremacist and arrogant European aristocracy to expand outside of Europe - that being natural resources. European population exploded as they took advantage of their resources at hand. Eventually, however, they were forced to seek resources elsewhere to feed their burgeoning populations - thus began their colonial efforts, and being aggressive, cruel and arrogant they completely raped the lands they ventured to, extracting resources and bringing the riches back to the home countries in Europe to quell the needs of their rebellious populations. Western populations, thus have historically lived at much higher standards of living than the rest of the world whose populations were forced to carry these people on their backs and be deprived of their own resources. Europeans and their Five eyes children have always lived high at the expense of those they conquered. And now, as the rest of the world awakens from its dark slumber and 500 year nightmare, we in the West are realising that the game might just be over and Justice is about to enter the room. O the karma of it all!

Tom Welsh's avatar

I think you exaggerate the aggressiveness, cruelty and arrogance of "European aristocrats". Those qualities characterise some people everywhere and at all times. It's just that some have more opportunities to exercise them than most. The Zulus, the Mongols, the Arabs, the Turks, the Japanese, the Huns, and no doubt lots of North Americans about whom we can never know because they were wiped out... conceded nothing in aggressiveness, cruelty and arrogance to Europeans. It wasn't just aristocrats either: Hitler, Mussolini, Napoleon, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Genghis Khan, and many others of their kind came from the lower layers of society.

Much is said nowadays about the wicked British exploitation of, for instance, India. But without the British, there would be no such country! When they came it was split into scores of large and small states, normally at war with one another. And their cruelty was greater than that of the British.

Tim's avatar

What your polemic omits to acknowledge is that those peoples who supposedly carried western aristocrats on their backs did so because they had been unable, over millennia, to even go so far in their development as to be able to invent the wheel, and so the carrying had to be done as you say it was.

Nor had many of them even written languages, so whatever development did occur - perhaps in the form of different constituents to put in the dung they used to build their houses with - could not be reliably transmitted to those outside the tribe they were part of.

Depriving the locals of their resources, of course, simply took the form of extracting those resources from the ground, where they would have remained permanently had the white man not devised means to access them.

The natives were then given jobs to assist with this process, which they otherwise would not have had.

As to completely raping the lands they went to, Joburg, Cape Town, etc etc were good examples of this complete degradation they brought with them, although now, in the absence of white supremacists, they are once more returning to the dust white men took them from, with added blackouts and wholesale murder and theft from shops accompanying the recent improvement in conditions for the native population.

The US, like every nation, looks out for it's own interests. Europe destroyed itself in 2 wars and the US has enjoyed picking up the pieces.

"It never was like that " - I grew up in the 60's and it was like that, even with the blundering of the Viet Nam war. But even then the process was in place - perhaps fed by the war of the inexhaustible appetite for money and spending as the driver of politics. Enabled by our ability to borrow especially when we discovered that we could arrange it so that foreigners needed/wanted to lend dollars back to us.

It was all very happy for several decades, but the logic of USD reserve status, our wonderful and special privilege leads mathematically to the exporting of production overseas.

Trump at least sees that we need to bring that production back. What he cant face is that the only way that will happen is for us to give up our special currency privilege. What political system based on voting will ever be willing to vote for a measure of pain even if it is corrective. It can only be imposed from the outside. The Russians were the unwilling recipients of that lesson when the USSR collapsed. Immense pain, but corrective.

Sadly for the US and the world the corrective imposition on the US will be much more difficult, but circumstances may yet again favor us. Perhaps we will just stumble into it. It will still be painful, but corrective (one hopes).

Panchita's avatar

There are no excuses. Russia and China also pursue their own interests, but they do not try to pillage and rape the entire world to achieve them. In fact, when I listened to John Mearsheimer for the first time and he said—as if it were some axiom!—that every state strives to dominate, I said “no” and changed the channel. You are so deep in your own shit that even the best and brightest among you cannot understand that your opinion is just that: an opinion, not a universal truth.

Tim's avatar

So-called "nazi Germany" was a model for every civilized state - their crime was not "fascism," ie the only political system able to successfully take on bolshevism, but their creation of a new financial system based on work done, not on gold borrowed at interest from the Usual Suspects.

That this revolution necessarily had to occur via the expulsion of a national group which had declared war on them at their World Congress in Amsterdam, is neither here nor there.

CC's avatar

Fascism successfully took on bolchevism? First I hear.

GM's avatar

It was successful for the people who created that attack dog in order to take down bolshevism. It wasn't successful for the Germans, but the USSR was mortally wounded. It took some time for that effect to manifest itself, but eventually it did -- there is a direct causal relationship between the damage incurred in the GPW and the USSR collapsing five decades later.

CC's avatar

Interesting. Is there any book that analyses that thread?

Tim's avatar

A GPW so patriotic that blocking battalions had to be used to prevent the patriots from fleeing en masse from the Wehrmacht and SS, and daring to co operate with them once the fighting had ceased.

This is the nonsensical line adopted by the apologists for it in the Kremlin today - they should rather acknowledge the absolute crushing depravity and soullessness of the SU under its Great Leader, and stop talking about "nazis" all the time.

The SU as it was then, godless and bolshevik and driven by jews, is not the same animal at all as Russia as it is today, Christian and democratic, and with many of the jews completely removed from positions of influence and power - surprisingly similar to "Nazi Germany" then!

Maria, Vladimir, Sergei, and all the rest - please take note.

It's no wonder that USA protected many nazis after WWII, because they love fascism like no other. Oh sorry, I meant "civilized state"....

GM's avatar
Jan 6Edited

Nazi Germany was modeled after the Jim Crow US, they are one and the same thing.

The US supported Nazi Germany, then fought them briefly, then allied back with them before the war was even over, and absorbed huge numbers of Nazis. D-Day was in essence a rescue operation for western European Nazis, to make sure the Russians didn't get to the Atlantic.

The US has officially fought Nazi Germany for a grand total of three and a half years, effectively more like two, and that was to kick them out of the trade routes in the Mediterranean. For the rest of the time it has been in a close alignment with them. But as we know, the victors write history, etc.

Politugal's avatar

About the victors writing history, that's not entirely true. It's more about who controls the media, that has its version spread across the board. And as we know, given the lack of brain power of most people in the world, especially in North America and Europe, if a lie is told many times, constantly, it eventually becomes "true" in the minds of idiots. Western idiots are on a league of their own, because, and using the Ukraine war as an example, all articles from even western media about nazis in Ukraine on the 23rd of February 2022, completely "disappeared" / were ignored, on the 24th of February of 2022, when new articles appeared that there were no nazis in Ukraine and that was all "russian propaganda". Among other examples, which prove just how terribly dumb north americans and europeans are. it's just baffling how the people that believe such obvious nonsense, are even able to breathe, given how limited their brain functions are....But of course, in the end, despite the media control, it's all about the fact that north americans and europeans love their nazis and will protect them always.

Politugal's avatar

You know nazis killed many more non jews, than jews correct ? Perhaps your "high IQ" is only high in your area...

Haywood Jablome's avatar

You know the Bolshevik Jews killed well over 20 million Christians don't you? And that is a low number. Putin has stopped historians from revealing how many. Most likely well into the 30 millions. And of course Germany during WWII killed more non Jews than actual Jews. The number of Jews which is at most 271,000 and the majority of those from Typhus and starvation late in the war when the Allies bombed logistic routes to the work camps. But you and your low IQ wouldn't know that as it doesn't fit the slop narrative you have bought into your entire life.

It was much worse than that.

They first fought them in North Africa, not in France, where they would have helped the USSR by opening up a serious second front.

Which in order to regain control of the trade routes through the Suez and the Mediterranean, and preempt an eventual Soviet dash to that region. You know, geopolitics, etc.

Then when they actually entered France it was really a rescue operation of the Nazis (there was practically no denazification in Western Germany, they were all quickly reincorporated into the new governing structures or taken to the US to work there) and to make sure the Soviets didn't get to the Atlantic.

And they were realigning with the Nazis behind the scenes no later than December 1944.

Any country you admire or set as an example?

My first History Prof in college was in the SDS on the East Coast. That kind of ignorance?

Politugal's avatar

See, you act exactly like the vast majority of USA people I mention. You don't really care what was said and why it was said. All you see is "he's attacking the USA people and I have to respond" because most USA people cannot accept flaws, despite the mountains of evidence, death, terrorism, war, genocides directly and indirectly provoked, created by USA.

In fact, instead of criticizing your fellow USA citizen above, the one I initially responded to, that claimed USA won world war 2 and I needed to thank USA for saving Europe, because he clearly doesn't know history...you replied to me because I dared to put him in his place, as well as many others from USA that have claimed the exact same lies, and actually taught him some history.

As I said in other posts as well, USA people never stop to "amaze" me (in all the possible wrong ways) at how clueless they are about everything around them, including how dumb their fellow USA citizens overall, are. And as this example shows, instead of scolding your ignorant fellow USA citizen above, you scold me...with tales of your travels, as if that means you are cultured somewhat. That only means you have money to do those travels. Money that you have as consequence of decades of USA destroying other countries, killing millions and stealing their resources, which allowed you to have a great life with lots of travels. I'm sure you are proud of it.....history however, is not your forte.

Also, I've talked about where I'm from several times. As if where I'm from matters at all to say what I'm saying. Although some of your fellow USA "brains" have commented in the past, that my opinion doesn't matter, because my country is small and irrelevant, which is exactly what I expect from the vast majority of USA people. Supremacist, disgusting people that think they are better than everyone.

If you're not like that, great!. But it would be excellent if you could understand that the vast majority of other USA people, are. USA's "credit" is murder, terrorism, genocide, war, bullying and their populace as a whole is guilty of it too, because you constantly claim to be the "bestest democracy ever", there's no "freer country than USA", which means you elect the warmongering psychopaths that constantly do the murder, terrorism, genocide, war, bullying , etc and actively support them.

I don’t much respect that AIPAC invests heavily to influence YS politics. I legitimately wonder why certain people have historically been invited to leave where they have “worn thin their welcome”. Is the problem writin their holy book? Do the treat others as lesser? Do they charge usurious rates for access to money? All legitimate questions and thankfully, people are starting to wake up. I see Russians as my brothers snd sisters and too ling, hidden forces of evil have labored to divide us. There often seems a “common denominator” that can be tied to a tiny wound festering somewhere far from my home. Possibly we, you and I, have common ground. I will wait and see.

image is everything, and the US has been putting egg on its face for the past 35 years with our shameless warmongering, warmaking, warfacililtating, and takeover of other countries to establish our 3000th military base. If every country where these bases are took the step of asking the US to leave, what would the US do? Go to war with all of them?

Politugal's avatar

Yes. The bases are there as the last resort to threaten with force. But first the USA would go to war in terms of trade and economics, with all those countries. It's the playbook for decades, since the dollar is the world's reserve currency and USA weaponizes it. As the dollar loses value, so will the ability of USA to put this economic pressure on other countries. China is ditching USA's debt / the dollar like the plague. Russia already did so. Only the absolute vassals, like european countries, that are willing to destroy themselves to please the orange Hitler or whatever new Hitler is in the white house, will continue to do whatever USA wants. Other countries will simply shift to the now existing alternatives, like BRICS. However BRICS countries, especially the more powerful ones, such as Russia and China, actually need to start setting red lines and actually enforcing them, otherwise USA will continue arming and financing terrorists to attack BRICS countries infrastructure. In other words, thanks to USA's warmongering psychopathy and terrorism, season should be open to destroy USA and european infrastructure too. Although with wimps like Putin, I doubt Russia will ever do any of that. China does seem more capable to respond to such provocations, but we will see.

2) Practical severe racial discrimination? Check.

3) Militant expansioninst foreign policy featuring large-scale genocide and justified by racial supremacism? Check.

That's great and I know there are "normal" people in USA, but the vast majority are indeed disgusting and support nazis, genocides and the continuation of the same terrorist policies of USA of the last 80 years, if not more.

And you are completely wrong about "everyone loving tourists". Being from a country where tourism is the only thing that keeps the economy going, (low wages, high taxes, etc) I know very well what the majority of USA people do. They are loud mouth know it alls that think they own everything and everyone that they go to. For every single "normal" USA person that visits Portugal, there are a 1000 despicable, disgusting "human" beings that behave like spoiled brats / animals.

If you don't understand this, that is your problem. The vast majority of the world hates you (USA and USA people overall, not you specifically)for good reasons. As a country, being a terrorist and warmonger, murders genocidal maniac and as a people, disgusting supremacists that think they are above everyone else and can do whatever they want, without the consequences. Hypocrisy, terrorism, genocide, murder, fascism, nazism, supremacism, authoritarianism, etc all these words should have "USA" as synonym in every dictionary of the world.

occamsrazorback22's avatar

"The vast majority of the world hates you (USA and USA people overall, not you specifically)for good reasons."

So you've done a survey then?

Politugal's avatar

I did. I used the same survey company that USA used to determine venezuelans don't want Maduro. The same survey company that says there are no nazis in Ukraine. The same survey company that says Russia has 1 million casualties in the war while Ukraine only has like 10000 or so. The same survey company that says Zelensky is very popular in Ukraine and would win any election. The same survey company that says taiwanese people support the anti-China rhetoric, etc, etc.

Anyway, unlike the data from those surveys, I actually have supporting facts. In this thread alone (you included), there's an absolute lack of knowledge of basic history. And for USA people specifically, "history" is whatever Fox News or whatever the "left" version of Fox News is, claims. USA is literally supporting nazis now and USA people constantly claim they won the war against nazis in the 1940s. However, people like you that claim USA people overall are so much better and knowledageable than what people like me claim, has not in a single post, criticized your dumb fellow USA citizens that claimed such things.

And if you actually lurk these threads of Simplicius articles, you'll find plenty more examples of idiotic comments by USA people, that lack any basic history knowledge.

Also, you "elected" Joe Biden, a brain dead demented pedo psychopath and Donald Trump, a pedo warmongering narcissistic psychopath...twice. Can USA people be more dumb ? Or perhaps you are saying USA is not a democracy or as free as USA people themselves constantly claim ?

What to say about people that claim something that is not true, constantly ? Just liars, or very, very dumb ? Or perhaps both ? I say both. And what to say about people that refuse to admit the dumbness of such people and that it is in fact the majority of them ? If they weren't the majority, would they "elect" constantly the warmongering psychopaths ? Perhaps a better question is, if USA people are so smart, as you seem to claim, why and how are they constantly deceived by the people that claim to not be warmongering psychopaths, but then become warmongering psychopaths, once elected ? Is that a sign of intelligence ? Or dumbness and ignorance ?

No one likes USA and USA people. The ones that say they do, they do it, because USA corrupts them to keep saying they like them. Others because they are scared USA bombs them, which is again why USA is hated so much. No one likes bullies, mobsters, genocidal psychopaths, warmongers, etc, all of which USA is.

I'm not buying a gun.

Opport Knocks's avatar

A lot of guns makes no difference. The qualitative and quantitative gap between the modern firepower of the state vs what ordinary citizens can obtain is overwhelming.

In 1791, the date of the 2nd amendment, difference in the firepower available to the government and what an organized citizen's militia could assemble was not that great. The only hope now is if the military massively turns against the government, yet history suggests that outcome is seldom for the better.

J Huizinga's avatar

I agree — the disparity in firepower is overwhelming, particularly with documented Israeli tools (paramilitary materiel) being sent to local governments. Could a Gaza-like mowing down of civilians take place in the US? That I can see it in my mind’s eye horrifies me. Even worse, there will be none in government to lament the dead or prevent it from happening again. Kent State is only a memory for the old, like myself.

But even he is now a firm and sold-out apologist for the state, demanding that all around him take safe and effective injections for non existent diseases.

John Galtsky's avatar

"A lot of guns makes no difference."

Respectfully disagree. You just have to stop thinking about "guns" in the old fashioned sense of taking a willfully stupid and inefficient approach to arms.

What's happening in the 21st century is that technology is moving the pendulum away from overwhelming government dominance over individuals to individuals having remarkable power over government. You just have to stop thinking about limiting yourself to ineffective weapons.

You can see that in the drone revolution. Anybody with a $500 drone that can fly a half kilo of improvised high explosive (easy to cook up in your kitchen) can kill pretty much whoever they want. If the would-be assassin who nicked Trump's ear wasn't such a dope, he would have used a drone and not a rifle. That he came so close to success despite being such a dope shows that even old-fashioned, inefficient weapons in the hands of individuals can still change history.

One might argue about the harshness of such views, but the Founding Fathers who wrote the Second Amendment into the Bill of Rights were not pansies: they were hard core revolutionaries who saw violence as a righteous means of enforcing the personal liberty they damned well intended to protect. Shooting the King's men was the least of it.

You could argue individuals have no chance against a huge government by pointing to the massive protection the President gets that individuals do not, but despite massive government outlays on the security of its apparatchiks even today pretty much any functionary of the state (other than the President) is extremely vulnerable to individuals who decide they're not going to be prey anymore.

On the larger scale, anybody of average intelligence who can scrape together around $15,000 and who has the willpower to study for a year or two can build out a basic gene splicing lab in a space about the size of an average living room in the US. That gets you into the bio-weapon business, with reasonable odds of cobbling up recombinant viruses that can kill hundreds of thousands, and even, at the tail end of the probability bell curve, some significant chance of unleashing a disease that will kill millions.

I emphasize that in the above I'm not advocating terrorism. I'm just pointing out that the reason the Founding Fathers wrote the Second Amendment still stands, that an armed citizenry is still a protection against government abuse, and that the steady evolution of technology has put very formidable weapons in the hands of individuals. It just takes willpower.

You could argue that willpower is precisely what the sheeple in the US are lacking. But I respectfully disagree with that having gone so far that Americans can just be harvested like sheep.

If the government tries a Gaza-like moving down of civilians in the US they're going to run into a gun culture that besides having a couple of hundred million firearms in private hands has also preserved an orneriness that is unwilling to allow fat-assed DEA cretins come beat up on your wife and kids. I agree there is a fat-headed laziness problem in the US, but I also strongly believe there are plenty of Americans still willing to fight for their personal liberty, just like the Founding Fathers did back in the late 1700's.

Frank Sailor's avatar

The founding father's myth is laughable. It's for the opulent against the have not. Almost literally stated like this in their writings.

As long as thousands of people are unorganized running rampant with guns, every better police force will put them to surrender in no time.

No strategy, no tactic skills, just rage and no plan is a disaster even without pushing in the military.

As long as US idiots are willing to shoot other US idiots, this country is going to be doomed for sure.

The average US citizen gives a flying F and can't be bothered as long as his Pick up truck is fueled and his filthy hamburger is done, even for above 10$ a piece now. This country has been so infantilized, brainwashed, dumbed down and made staring at their own fat belly button - there is nothing to begin with morons who think that they're the shining city on the hill while rolling in their own garbage.

CC's avatar

Thank you. Someone had to say it.

Shagbark's avatar

Just go onto a Cabelas and observe the folks trolling around the gun section. Overweight, diabetic, mouth breathers.

John Galtsky's avatar

"The founding father's myth is laughable."

Nonsense. There's nothing laughable about the founding fathers. Guys like Paul Revere and Thomas Paine were ready to lay down their lives. Ben Franklin was dead serious when he remarked they'd all better hang together or they'd hang separately. Taking on the King's army was not remotely for the faint of heart. Go visit Lexington and Concord and read the details of what armed farmers did on those days against the world's most powerful army and you'll see it's no fucking Tik Tok myth. Those guys were the real deal, hard core revolutionaries.

As to whether the average US citizen gives a flying fuck about anything, if you focus on that you've missed the point of what I wrote. This isn't about averages and history changing revolutions rarely are. There were fewer than 25,000 Bolsheviks (and the majority of that number were sympathizers and not really hard core) in 1917 yet they took over the world's largest empire that had a population approaching 200 million people. Ain't no "average" in that.

The point is that given modern technology a small handful of people, even one guy (as almost happened when Trump's ear got nicked), can change history. In a country with over 350 million people there are more than enough people who can use arms.

So anybody who's patting himself on the back for not being an overweight, diabetic, mouth breather shopping for guns in Cabelas is also missing the point. It's not those guys, and I'm sure there are some just like there are plenty of overweight, diabetic liberals who can't keep their mouths off their roommate's bong, who can push back if the government really did try to start mowing people down like Israel does in Gaza.

And it doesn't have to get that extreme, like guys using drones packed with a few hundred grams of explosive to express their political dissent.

There are plenty of decent, honorable, law abiding Americans who are in better shape than most people reading this and who also have taken advantage of their Second Amendment right to bear arms to ensure they are ready to protect their liberty and that of their families and community just like those guys did at Lexington and Concord. You can mouth off all you want on Internet but I think it is profoundly stupid to fuck with American patriots in real life.

It could be I'm foolishly naive but I'm hoping there are still enough Americans out there with common sense who will speak out against the current administration's rush to world war. With any luck we'll make it to the midterms and then when the Republican party is routed in free and fair elections the pendulum may swing back to a more peaceful focus on domestic issues instead of starting a new war every week. The dems, of course, will focus on looting the state and brainless socialism, but at least that won't be a headlong rush into nuclear conflict.

Those "founding fathers" just wanted the power that previously the Brits had had, and as fully paid-up members of the Bar in most cases, they were enemies of actual American patriots, and treasonous to boot.

( Bar is the acronym "British Accreditation Registry," ie they use a British tool, aka statute law, to control and enslave the ordinary citizen, and continue to do so via the treasonous oath they swear to a foreign power, ( "The Crown," - which is not Charlie Boy in case you were wondering, or his family ) before they are unleashed to reap the financial rewards they are promised for doing so.

If you look at the actual legal definition for "Constitution," you will find it means "An oath sworn to freely pay somebody else's debts," ie the FFs wanted a Constitution not to protect their fellows, but to insulate themselves from responsibility to repay the debts they incurred to European jewish banks ( you know the names ) in pursuance of their wish to raise a republican army to expel the Brits and replace them with jewish financiers, as was the case with all the so called "revolutions" going on at that time, which just coincidentally, of course, had to do with the emergence of the Rothschilds / Bauers from Judenstrasse in Hamburg at the time.

Going back to the FFs, you have to wonder why such great American patriots allowed the Brits to remain in the US for eight years after they were supposedly defeated, and the only answer can be, so that they could take over the franchise, with the franchisees now speaking yanqui rather than the King's English.

"One thing is to create a killing virus and another to develop one that would only kill Republicans or Democrats."

The example I gave is not about killing Republicans or Democrats, it's about indiscriminate killing. The point is that technology exists to enable very small groups, individuals even, to cause extreme havoc. I gave that as a counter example to the completely false proposition that was posted, "A lot of guns makes no difference."

In point of fact "a lot of guns", whether you mean that literally as in a lot of conventional firearms or in the broader sense of widely available ability to kill, does make a difference, and there are plenty of precedents for anarchist / terrorist / anti-establishment movements who have utilized indiscriminate mass killing to achieve their ideological ends.

Whether it is a Japanese cult using home-brewed nerve gas to attempt to commit mass murder on Japanese subways or a 19th century anarchist group willing to bomb gatherings of peaceful people there are plenty of precedents. Somebody who was mad about an overbearing government could cause a lot of instability by unleashing deadly viruses.

Well, I'm rambling on and on. My point, I guess, is 20 fuckin' years? And what will change then?

I find myself rooting for BRICS. Venezuela though gives me pause.

I'll be dead before this plays out. So will everyone commenting on it. Imagine being 50 in 1760. (or even 1770) What would motivate you?

Some faction of the "Anglo-American Oligarchy/Deep State/Jewish Mob" still remains in control.

Sure they give some nice speeches about "freedom" and for a bit things get better (or FDR gives them "money" which -- one more time: isn't "real") Then they hire propagandists to tell us how great things are and we look at our meager home and think -- "YEAH!"

You -all- are right. Every single one of you.

Well, I've never been fond of socialism. I live in Russia and even thirty five years after they threw the stinkin' commies out there are still plenty of scars of their foul socialist ideology all around here.

I didn't like Chavez and I thought Maduro was a buffoon. But I strongly believe in the right of Venezuelans to find their own way and to make their own mistakes.

Even thought I'm a die-hard market economy capitalist I don't hate the Venezuelans for nationalizing US businesses way back when. That's part of the deal if you're a genuine capitalist, you're supposed to think of the downside risks when you invest in a place like Venezuela. Suppose one day they wake up and decide not to be the US's vassals but decide to go their own way? Maybe you'd better hedge that risk.

That can be done as plenty of well-run capitalist businesses have managed to do within socialist and even Marxist countries. But don't ask the US to come in and kill people because you didn't think ahead.

So yeah, definitely I'm rooting for Venezuela. I think that's also rooting for the US because if you really believe in democracy and self-determination you believe in the right of other nations to take the paths they want and not just the path you want them to take.

You're right about. That's why things are changing, because people are ready to die.

I live in Russia and I know guys who have been fighting in Ukraine since 2014. They're volunteers. They went there to defend their kin, they were ready to die (and some of them have), and they won't give up until their people are safe. Every one of them that's not dead has been wounded, and when they heal they get up from the hospital bed and they go back into combat.

That's what it will take in Venezuela and Latin America for those people to be free from imperialist bullies. They need the same willingness to fight to the death for their liberty. Russians are willing to do that, the Vietnamese were willing, the Taliban were willing, Ansar Allah is willing, and that's what it will take for Mexico on south to get free and stay free.

I'm not saying that's enough to stay free of factionalism and civil wars within your society, but when you're talking about an external threat you've got to be ready to die to fight that threat off.

I was initially intrigued by AK — seemingly an independent thinker with some non-banal observations.

Then I became puzzled by the fact that his position on Djt was largely invariate throughout the entirety of 2025, despite the obvious chaos and evident corruption.

Then I took a closer look: what is it about his argumentation such that his end of year 2025 position on Trump is almost exactly the same as his beginning of the year 2025 position? Mine certainly isn’t.

The mechanism is this: Krainer constructs a series of distinct and intricate explanations for every administration crisis EACH OF WHICH BY ITSELF IS PLAUSIBLE. But he then proceeds to loop them into an overriding message: Djt wants to do something positive (world peace, reach an understanding with Putin, etc) but can’t because A,B or C (“because, because…the wonderful wizard of oz…because…)

Actually AK is one of the most accomplished and persistent at this kind of reasoning which ends up absolving Djt of any agency. And sometimes seems completely right about a micro detail here and there.

But he reminds me very much of a classmate who would argue (we used the case method in B-school) “if you think about it”….then proceeded to propose the most obvious data independent, counterintuitive explanation for something quite contrary to the rationally observable. The approach bears a family resemblance to “how many angels can dance on the head of a pin” and other Talmudic-style debates.

AK could be the visionary genius of our time…all I know is I’ve stopped listening to him as I expect, at some point, he is willing and capable of justifying selective use of nuclear weapons.

“Vita brevis, ars lunga”….there are too many thinkers (such as the writer of this substack) whose integrity is unshadowed for me to follow AK.

There is always the occasional uptick in conspiracy theories about silver floating around on alt media. This despite the obvious fact there is no change in availability, demand or supply. Neither is there a significant change in price. Yet the stories all flare up every once in a while usually in connection with some totally unrelated geopolitical event.

I remember years ago that a couple of oil rich brothers (the Pickets if I remember correctly) lost most of their billions trying to corner the entire silver market pursuing a then prevalent myth about silver floating around in what was called in financial circles "the pink sheets." A limited precursor to the current wild west part of the internet.

Most of theories revolve around a variation of ....silver is in everything significant, we are going to need a lot more of everything significant, there is only so much silver and importantly, someone(s) are making the situation worse in a noteworthy way. Silver doom is just around the corner. Some individuals are in the know and want to pass this information on for a variety of reasons, often unstated.

For me, at my age, like many things really.....been there, done that.

But nobody gives a crap about silver. Nor do they care that some people playing the futures market and running shorts got their fingers burned. We do notice that you are surprised that the minute the biggies might get burned as well, they change the rules to make sure it doesn't happen.

Why should I care about silver prices impacting green b.s. when it's on the way out anyway? Why should I care about silver being used in chips when the whole economy based on chips is starting to unravel? Data centers ....what data centers? You mean the ones that need massive amounts of water and electricity which doesn't exist, couldn't for years and wouldn't anyway because people don't want to pay for it.

Jeez....you call us ignorant because we don't think the world revolves around this weeks silver fluctuations.

SG_observer's avatar

Ron - you are so far out.... it kind hints that MSM financial programming governs your understanding of the financial markets. First, it was the hunt brothers who cornered the silver markets.. and they were super successful. So what does comex do? they literally change the rules over night, to force long liquidation with crazy high margin requirements. Just like that... you don't get to game the gamekeepers, was what the hunt brothers found out.

As for what's been happening in the silver market... it;s been in a huge physical deficit for 5 years. yes... the physical vaults are literally being emptied out as silver is now used in many new critical applications. But most of the silver is already produced and used by China.... and both Samsung and Apple have developed a new battery which require much more silver for the anodes... but hey, they bought the paper contracts on COMEX.. but what happens when COMEX no longer has the silver to deliver, not just this cominng month, but for the years ahead? The whole house of cards come down.

5 years of huge physical deficits.... that's what brought silver to here... but here, more than doubling in less than a year doesn't tell you something is going on.....

ron's avatar
Jan 6Edited

You are correct. It was the Hunt brothers not the Picketts. As I recall from the time, they were spectacularly successful at first and then they were equally spectacularly unsuccessful. In fact, their failure ended up causing a fifty percent drop in the price of silver in one day. They took a lot of people with them including many who had no connection to the scheme or were even aware of it.

The rule change you refer to was simply requiring the Hunt brothers to show some money behind their claim of owning a silver contract. They were buying up billions of dollars worth of contracts simply on the basis that they could pay for it if asked. When they and everybody else were required to put a substantial amount of money into paying for a contract before saying you owned it, the market collapsed.

Mexico and Peru are the main producers of silver. It is freely available on the market and they have plenty of it. However, it is like with oil. When the price is high it is all doom and we are going to run out entirely next year. When the price drops down to low levels, all of a sudden we have enough for centuries.

China is the main processor of silver because they can do it at scale cheaper than most people just like almost all manufactured goods. People who were holding silver as a store of wealth for the last decade have seen the market price double from the extreme low and are making up deficit you refer to by selling into that demand.

L.O.L. This is the first time I ever heard the Hunt brothers presented as humanitarians simply on a mission to point out the folly of then existing silver market.

At any rate, there are two issues about the silver market in this thread. Silver as a tradeable commodity. Silver as a significant factor in geopolitics.

I do not believe for an instant that decisions to invade Venezuela complete with credible threats to do the same to Mexico, Colombia, Cuba, Greenland, or hit Putin's residence with missiles .....is impacted in the slightest by gyrations in the silver market. That is what I am talking about. I mentioned the Hunt brothers (clearly misnamed by error as I was operating from memory of the era since I dismissed them then and now) to demonstrate why the people who make such geo political decisions know little and care less about what things like the Shanghai market rule changes might mean.

As a subject of interest for investment which is what everybody is starting to get into here, it is beyond me. I can't deal with something where the conspiracy theorists might even be right.

Trump wants Greenland because getting it would be a Presidential History bright object. Not because there may or may not be just the right mix of rare earth concentrations suitable for the American defense industry, to make their extraction worth while. Or silver or cotton fields or anything. It's because it would demonstrably make make America great(er) again, just like the old days when America just did sh*t or so it seems to him.

Simon Robinson's avatar

Ron iirc it was the Bunker-Hunt bros that tried to corner the Silver market.

VHMan's avatar

Wasn’t it the Hunts who tried to corner the silver market. Be a little circumspect before dismissing silver. Silver is solidly in the lead as the best conductor of electricity so may be particularly valuable to those manufacturing planes, missiles, drones, DATA CENTERS….

ron's avatar

Sigh.....they will just pay extra for the small amount of silver used in their operations not that they use it but the gear they buy will contain some. If it gets too expensive they will simply use a slightly inferior product.

Silver is far and away the best product around because it is the best in half a dozen different ways. So yes, it is the best conductor but not the best conductor by far. It is just that any alternative to silver as the best conductor is not also the best reflector which of course is of little interest to most data center operations.

Not to mention that the cost of the silver in building things like a hypersonic maneuverable multi warhead intercontinental missile is the very least of your concerns.

Sometimes good enough is actually good enough. If you have plenty of silver lying around because because you don't care how much it costs, that's great . If not, use something else and take a fraction of a percent loss of performance. In modern times fortunes may be made or lost with silver. But no one will start a war over silver.

Feral Finster's avatar

The Hunt Brothers.

"Pink sheets" refers to something entirely different, namely over the counter trading in securities not listed on an exchange.

ron's avatar

The Pink Sheets eco system is where todays equivalent of you tube financial markets influencers hung out. Clearly the Hunts would *not* have been doing silver stuff on the Pink Sheets. It wasn't set up for that. Selling shares in a vehicle to corner the silver market would have been possible but not the purchase of silver contracts themselves. Or at least not as I understand how it worked.

Conspiracy theorists had a field day in those circles. If you wanted to catch up on the latest sure thing flowing from some otherwise unknown factors just ask anybody playing there. And I'm not saying that there weren't real companies presenting genuine opportunities in the Pink Sheets.

That is the point. We don't know many things.

Will the Venezuelan authorities cooperate with US oil companies? If they do cooperate, it is treason and bribery or a logical desire to avoid the destruction of the country? We don't know.

If they do, will chavismo develop a militant branch following the model of the FARC? We don't know.

How successful woukd be their sabotage actions against US interests in Venezuela? We don't know.

How would China respond? We don't know.

The only thing that we do know is that the US government has violated all rules of International Law, including treaties signed and ratified by the US, and also the provisions of the US Constitution.

It has also violated the rules of any religion and non religious rules of rational morality, incurring in an arbitrary killing spree in and around Venezuela.

Victor's avatar

Here is an even added possibilty which might explain technically why the military did not respond - they couldn't:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHn_hyW1ksM

According to this video, the US very effectively used various levels of Electronic Warfare to completely smother Venezuelan military efforts opening a safe path to Maduro's home in a well coordinated attack and preventing a response. So there might well be no military traitors or any deal made.

I don't know if the video is true, but it has the ring to my mind.

It might well have been simply a well played kidnapping.

LGBQT, whatever that is, and communists don't like a shit pizza for dinner. I suppose that you are about to order one this evening, to show how sane you are.

Based on what we know so far, in my opinion Trump made an arrangement with Delcy Rodriguez, as I wrote soon after Trump's press conference in the 2nd update of my article on US attack on Venezuela: https://geopolitiq.substack.com/p/the-outlaw-us-empire-attacks-venezuela?r=25fc37

Also, it is worth mentioning that Venezuela's gold in the Bank of England may have a played a role in this affair too: https://geopolitiq.substack.com/p/venezuelas-gold-neocons-remain-the?r=25fc37

You might well be correct, but I think it too early to assess as it could also well be that Trump made an arrangement with Maduro himself who then made an arrangement with Rodriquez and the military - all to prevent severe damage to Venezuela and to save face for Trump when he realised he had stepped into serious shit with Venezuela.

Time will tell.

Ismaele's avatar

That's also another possibility, given Maduro's photos appearing online, assuming they are not AI-generated.

Victor's avatar

They don't appear to be, but you are right - that is a possibility.

Maduro made the offer to Trump a month or two back. It's in the record. Perhaps it wasn't rejected, perhaps it was, but it was made and it came to be (this far at least).

Ismaele's avatar

Yes, I am aware of that. Just why spend all this US taxpayers' money for such a theatrical abduction? Sure, it serves as a show of force for lesser countries, though I am pretty sure that others (e.g. Russia and China) were not impressed.

mary-lou's avatar

neither are the Europeans, so far reacting very carefully.

Ismaele's avatar

They know they could be next, if need be, though Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed support yo Trump’s move.

abcdefg's avatar

It's all about Trump's ego. He needs to win. And violence is the US preference.

Victor's avatar

Money means nothing to the US. It was certainly meant as a message to all in the Western hemisphere.

Peter V's avatar

All what money? Personnel are paid anyway. Fuel and maintenance amount to no more than a training mission. I don't see much additional costs.

Ismaele's avatar

If you are happy with US government spending a HUGE amount of money on "defense" (read: "war on other countries thousands of miles away which never bothered the US") and only a tiny fraction on national health service, while asking you to pay private health insurance... well, fine by me!

Luis Gómez de Aranda's avatar

I mean the arrangements between Maduro and Rodriguez to avoid destruction of Venezuela, not about AI generated photos

The Gold that UK has taken hostages as the US has with Germanys gold?

Interesting.

leonid breshnev's avatar

Your comment : The Gold that UK has taken hostages as the US has with Germanys gold? is spot on. Nobody knows if the German Gold is actually still physically there in Fort Knox. German Gov. Representatives were not allowed to see it. Perhaps it's mostly only on paper now and The City of London may be a similar picture. Perfect Heist.

The docility of Germans regarding their masters is

unique.

Stjopa's avatar

Not "THE Germans"! It's the leadership group that has been groomed for decades through programs like "Young Global Leader" or the so-called "Atlantic Bridge," funded by NGOs and foundations (Soroz, Rockefeller, Gates...) and fueled by the mainstream media. They are, of course, now indebted to the "Lord."

Maduro was willing to concede just about everything to the U.S. However, he did require his personal safety and continued presence as President. This was a sticking point for the U.S. Those around Maduro concluded ..... we are going to give the Americans everything they want then why get ready to fight an overwhelming military force just to preserve him. What do we need him for? Best to concede him first as well and we live to fight another day. The U.S. even promised to let us live if we cooperate.

The gold the U.K. seized is worth about eight billion dollars. Very small potatoes considering everything going on. It is enough for some individuals to fantasize about getting their hands on it but the U.K. has it and won't be releasing it any time soon.
